Data concerning the Mayan approach to comets and meteors have till now been available mostly from ethnographical and folklore w u r m which dealt, a~a rule, with various beliefs and tokens. The studies of hieroglyphic texts of the Claseic Period (AD 600-900) have proved that comets and meteors were undoubtedly known in this culture through astronomical observations and their periodicity.

Resumen del libro de "La Casa de las Golondrinas en Guatemala" publicado en la Revista D Prensa Libre. La publicación de este descubrimiento de un mapa estelar que refleja ambos hemisferios del cielo estrellado ha sido traducida a 4 idiomas mayas. La ubicación y morfología de cada imagen en un fragmento de la superficie rocosa de "La Casa de las Golondrinas" representa de manera sorprendente las constelaciones de ambos hemisferios del cielo estrellado: el norte y el sur. Se identificaron las constelaciones de Orión, Casiopea, Pléyades, Can Mayor, la Pequeña Nube de Magallanes, etc., pero lo más importante: los polos norte y sur. Este es el primer y hasta ahora único caso en el mundo en el que un mapa estelar completo está representado en el arte rupestre, es una imagen del cielo estrellado, un planisferio preciso creado hace unos 5 mil años a.C. por un antiguo astrónomo mesoamericano.
